Print and Complete

You are a historian who has been hired by a local business to research a picture found in their building. They know some of the buildings in the picture are still standing, but much has changed. They want to find out as much information as they can about the picture. Carefully examine each of the three sections of the photograph and answer the following questions for your client:

Section 1

  1. Examine the object resembling a railroad car. Describe it.

  2. What is the name shown above the arch leading to the railcar?

  3. What letters are shown under the words "Angels Flight"?

  4. Are there other objects in this section which give you a clue in your search?

  5. What conclusions can you draw from this section?

  6. What is the evidence for your conclusions?

  7. What further questions does this section of the photo raise for your investigation?

Section 2

  1. Notice the two people on the corner waiting to cross the street. What is unusual about one of their pants? How could this be used to tell approximately when the photo was taken?

  2. What conclusions can you draw from this section?

  3. What is the evidence for your conclusions?

  4. What further questions does this section of the photo raise for your investigation?

Answer the following questions:

  1. What questions were you able to answer from your research?

  2. What evidence did you find to support your conclusions?
