- Bob Jones Trail. The paved, mostly flat path from San Luis Obispo to Avila Beach along San Luis Creek; the easy family ride or walk.
- Bishop Peak. The tallest of the nine sisters (the volcanic plugs west of town); a steep ~3.5-mile hike to the summit with views over the city.
- Avila Beach and Pismo Beach. Avila is the calmer cove; Pismo is the wider, busier beach town with the pier and the dunes (and the clam festival). Both are 10-15 minutes from downtown.
