California in the 20th century hosted four international expositions, two in San Francisco (1915 and 1939/40) and two in San Diego (1915/16 and 1935), as well as numerous local and regional celebrations. These events served as popular vacation destinations. They offered everything a vacationing family could want — educational pavilions, beautiful gardens, entertainment, good food at every turn, and fun times on the midway.
