Panama Pacific International Exposition =>

Less than half a century after achieving statehood, Californians invited the world to attend its first international exposition. Located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, the California Midwinter International Exposition took place in 1894. It had been the brainchild of newspaper publisher Michael deYoung, and featured displays by California's counties, as well as some of the national and international exhibits from Chicago's Columbian Exposition of the previous year.
