Preliminary Drawings

<= We Built the Bridge

The Intrepid Diver =>

In early 1932, the Department of Public Works–Division of Highways completed preliminary drawings for the bridge’s construction. However, some of these initial plans were altered prior to construction. The drawing at left, for example, shows a suspension bridge on the eastern span as it approaches the Yerba Buena Island. This was later changed to a cantilever section. The drawing at right is of a design that was followed for the towers on the western span of the bridge.
